I can hear humming noise coming from the trunk when pressing the remote, or pull the trunk release button on the door panel. They are notched so you can't accidentally plug them in the wrong way, but just make sure you're not forcing it if one doesn't seem to fit, it's probably going to the incorrect socket. Honestly though, it sounds more like the "door open" switch or mechanism on your driver/passenger door is the culprit.
